Cookie Rally and More

This past weekend, Juliette attended her first Cookie Rally! It was fun for her AND her little brother (maybe I should call him “Cub” because he likes bears and will most likely join Boy Scouts when old enough – he’s 2.5 years old so we haven’t decided for sure yet). It was a council event and they let him be part of it. Juliette did Girl Scout trivia (she used her phone-a-friend so I could give her the answer) and then got to play Plinko. She won a big prize. Then they let Cub play Plinko and he also won a big prize! They each wore name tags of their cookie names, made s’mores costumes, and did each of the activities.

It was pretty cool because not long after arriving, we were stopped by the new CEO of our Girl Scout council. She bent down to the kids’ level, asked Juliette some questions, and was super-smiley and happy to be there. She even gave both kids a GS Council CEO fun patch with her name on it. I’m still deciding if I’ll add it to Cub’s Blippi jacket with his dinosaur patches (he wanted patches like his sister, so he has some – we got a dozen so I can add one on whenever I’m ironing his sister’s smock), save it if he can add it to his Boy Scout uniform, or add to my adult Girl Scout jacket (hubby thinks I should add to my vest).

The best part was that Juliette finally tried Girl Scout cookies! Cub spit out the Samoas cookie he tried (their daddy’s favorite) but enjoyed the Trefoil. Juliette wasn’t a fan of the Lemon-Ups, but she liked the Thin Mints. Grandma came with us and Juliette was so excited that her favorite is also her Grandma’s favorite. I tried the Adventurefuls, but still love Tagalongs the best. There weren’t any there for the kids to try so I definitely will order a box and (gulp) share with them. All attendees received a free Cookie Rally fun patch from the GS Store, and I got us each a GS Council fun patch.

Official Cookie Pin and Badge

Although Juliette was signed up to attend a webinar to earn the Cookie Entrepreneur Family Pin right after the Cookie Rally, we decided to skip it. Earning the pin is pretty easy. There’s a two-page form for the Daisy to fill out with her family. We went over the questions, she set her goal, found out deadlines, and anything else asked, so she earned the pin. I believe that it’s a pin/award that she can earn during every year of Girl Scouts.

Since it’s her first time selling cookies, we also looked at the My First Cookie Business Badge. It has some overlapping requirements with the Pin, so we did it the next day. I showed Juliette each of the cookies and helped her learn the names. It was great because she remembered some of the names from the rally. We reflected on her sales goal and how she wanted to use the money she earns. And then she practiced her sales pitch including how to respond appropriately if someone says “no.”

An Update on Progress

Here’s my usual update on the badges, journeys, and awards that we’re working on or have planned.

  • Between Earth and Sky Journey – earned the Bucket and the Firefly. Next up is a Take Action Project
  • Safety Award Pin – still needs to memorize my phone number (she knows the first 6 digits and will be learning the remaining 4 soon)
  • Money Explorer Badge/ Good Neighbor Badge – we haven’t started yet, but they seem to go well with all of the cookie badges
  • How Robots Move/ Design a Robot – would make sense to follow up the first robotic badge with these
  • Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden Journey – we haven’t started, but we have the books and this would be a great third journey that would also earn her Daisy Journey Summit Award Pin
  • Automotive badges – she’s signed up for a virtual event with NASCAR in April to earn all three badges
